re: Piss Off a Few People
Nikhil made a blog post that summarizes human nature.
A brief summary but also a couple of points added:
Its good to piss off people if you do so to defend your principles. It's good to have a spine. Many people in life do not have a spine.
People will find a reason to hate you anyway, so why not be true to yourself?
Why not defend what you know is true and correct?
What good does it do to be around others who hate your prototype that you are evidently masking for the approval of others?
And although Nikhil explains it in the context of men who sell themselves to be near a woman, it applies to our human nature overall.
So yes. Even if it means you risk being alone, take a stand for your beliefs and as Nikhil explains:
"So cultivate moral standards for yourself. And take a stand. If you have a spine, show it. A man who does not mind standing alone is a man who possesses all the strength in the world."
