Seems like nurses in general are awful people
Months ago, we stopped by a hospital for a fever that wasn't getting better. I loathe hospitals and doctors, this was only worry surpassing my will that made me go.
The entire time, the nurses are talking ill of all of the patients coming in.
A man comes in a wheelchair and exclaims in pain that a stingray got his leg. They dismiss his claim, and send him to a room and tell him to wait patiently for the doctor. He was asking for pain medication and they just shrug him off. When he's out of the main lobby, the front desk and the nurses loathing around immediately turn to each other to TRASH TALK HIM. They laughed at his supposed crisis, and that he was probably faking it.
This isn't the first time I witnessed this behavior from our supposed saviors. But it's all going in my mental collection of reasons that I despise this prototype of people.
You can tell when someone is really there because they love helping, or if they just want to feel good about the status of being a nurse.
I absolutely cannot stand nurses, or doctors, or any apathetic person who sees a person and feels nothing for their life or their worries and confusion. It's that dynamic of power that they have over others that gives them the right (in their minds) to dismiss people as less than.
I try to call this out whenever I can, but when your own life or someone that you love is in their hands, who are you to question them? They don't take kindly to questioning or abrasive rejection of their "good will". Their savior complex is just too strong.
If you're a nurse or a doctor, stop assuming that your patient is stupid, and do not take on the role of trash talking them at any chance. Or maybe just leave your job, you don't deserve to be a nurse if you can't behave like one.
Don't assume someone's politics, or even discuss politics in your field of work. Politics should not be discussed in any field of work. For such an empathetic role, empathy is not present a lot of the time. In fact, many nurses are simply cocky, and possibly dim witted enough to take the hippocratic oathe and simultaneously not abide by it every single day.
Of course, there are rare occasions where you find people that do care, but in my personal experience: the people that do care are much harder to come by than those that don't.
This can be said about most people in life. Most will not care one bit about you. Others, will pretend that they do, which is arguably worse. Because those that pretend to do so, will hurt you the most in your time of need.
