St. Ignatius of Loyola

St. Ignatius of Loyola, born in 1491 to Basque nobility, he was the Basque saint of Azpeitia in the Biscay region.
Ignatius was a hardheaded warrior, a womanizer, and a proud man of his own heritage.
After a battle with the French that shattered one of his leg bones, Ignatius' heart was touched by grace and found Jesus. He repented of his life (up until then) of pride and lust.
He is well known as the founder of the Society of Jesus in 1540.
My personal connection to this saint: I am related to St. Ignatius of Loyola through direct bloodline. Loyola is one of my [many] recognized last names. In spanish culture, you honor both your father and your mothers last names. On my father's side, Loyola is present.
This personal connection is what draws me closer to my faith, and reinforces my belief and desire to preserve my own culture.
"Go forth and set the world on fire." -St. Ignatius Loyola
